Anti-Rho(D) Immunoglobulin

Anti-Rho(D) Immunoglobulin is indicated to prevent antibodies from forming after a person with Rh-negative blood receives a transfusion with Rh-positive blood, or during pregnancy when a mother has Rh-negative blood and the baby is Rh-positive. Anti-Rho(D) Immunoglobulin is given for Rh prophylaxis in pregnancy related complications. It is also approved for Incompatible transfusions in Rh-negative individuals transfused with blood components containing Rh-positive red blood cells (RBCs). It is approved for immune thrombocytopenic purpura condition with decreased number of circulating platelets leading to easy bruising.Your doctor or nurse will give you this injection. Kindly do not self administer. The injection is given into a muscle; normally it is given in the upper arm. You will routinely be offered an anti-D injection routinely at 28 weeks of pregnancy and within 72 hours of birth, if your baby is Rh D positive. This medicine may sometimes cause side effects like fever, headache, feeling of discomfort, and injection site tenderness or pain. If you get any of these, or other reactions, or just feel unwell, you should tell your doctor. There may be ways of preventing or reducing these effects. Before using it, you should tell your doctor if you have any problems with blood clotting and if you have recently had, or plan to have, a vaccination. Anti-Rh D immunoglobulin belongs to class of drugs called immunoglobulin. It removes or nullifies any fetal rhesus-D positive red blood cells that enter the rhesus-D negative maternal blood stream during childbirth, abortion, or any accident or intervention during pregnancy which might lead to bleeding across the placenta.

• Infections

Anti-D immunoglobulin prevents a rhesus-negative mother from actively forming antibodies to foetal rhesus-positive RBCs that may pass into the maternal circulation during childbirth, abortion, or certain other sensitising events. It is also used in idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura to prevent excessive bleeding.

Adult Dose: Intramuscular Transfusion of D-positive blood components to rhesus-negative women of child-bearing potential Adult: 125 units/ml of transferred cells. Prevent formation of antibodies against fetal rhesus-positive RBCs in a rhesus-negative mother during childbirth, abortion or certain other sensitising events Adult: 500 units as soon as possible after birth. An additional dose may be required depending on the amount of transplacental bleeding as assessed by the Kleihauer test; for bleeds >4 ml, an additional 125 units for each ml of RBCs will be required. Routine antenatal prophylaxis Adult: 2 doses of 500 units to be given at wk 28th and 34th of gestation. Intravenous Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura Adult: Initially, 250 units/kg, may be given in 2 divided doses on separate days. Maintenance doses: 125-300 units/kg depending on the clinical response.

[SAFE] Anti-Rho(D) Immunoglobulin does not usually affect your ability to drive. It is injected into a muscle or directly into a vein under the supervision of a doctor. Take measles, mumps, and chickenpox vaccination at least 3 weeks before or not until 3 months after. Inform your doctor if experience allergic reactions like itching, skin rash, transient fall in blood pressure or severe like chest pain, wheezing, and trouble breathing.

Contraindicated in Rh-positive individuals.

Live vaccines should only be admin at least 3 mth after the last dose of immunoglobulin admin.
