Neomycin, an aminoglyoside with antimicrobial spectrum similar to gentamicin, binds to the 30S subunits of the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting protein synthesis and thereby disrupting DNA synthesis. It is active against many gram-negative aerobes and against some strains of staphylococci.

Adult Dose: Topical Adult Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses with secondary infection Apply cream/ointment to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily for 7 days Child Dose: Topical Child: >2 years Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses with secondary infection Apply cream/ointment to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily for 5 days

Burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrychosis, acneiform eruptions, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration of the skin, secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae and miliaria may be reported.

Long-term continuous topical therapy should be avoided where possible, particularly in infants and children. Infants and children up to four years should not be treated with topical steroids for longer than 3 weeks without medical review.

- Acne vulgaris. - Perioral dermatitis. - Perianal and genital pruritus. - Primary cutaneous viral infections (e.g. herpes simplex, chickenpox). - Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation. Lactation: use with caution

Synergistic effects with penicillins. Additive toxicity with neurotoxic, ototoxic or nephrotoxic drugs. May decrease absorption of digoxin and methotrexate. May increase effects of oral anticoagulants.
