Description
Penicillamine is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and Wilson's disease. It slows the progression of rheumatoid arthritis and provides relief from pain and swelling in the joints. For treatment of Wilson's disease, it helps to remove the excess copper from the body. Penicillamine is to be taken in an empty stomach. You should take it regularly and at the same time each day to get maximum benefit from it. Keep taking it as recommended by your doctor and complete the dose even if you feel better. Using of this medicine may cause some common side effects such as low blood platelets and protein in urine. Your doctor may recommend regular blood tests to check and make sure the medicine is not harming your liver or effecting your blood counts. You should consult with your doctor if any of these side effects does resolve with time or get worse. Your doctor may help with ways to reduce or prevent these symptoms. To make sure the medicine is safe for you, before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any problem with your kidneys. Also tell your doctor of all the other medicines you are taking. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult with their doctors before taking the medicine. Penicillamine works by blocking the action of certain chemical messengers that are responsible for inflammation and slows the progress of the condition with certain joint diseases. Administration
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not chew, crush or break it. Penicillamine is to be taken empty stomach.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Penicillamine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Use in pregnancy

Use in lactation
[SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Penicillamine is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby. Taking Penicillamine right after nursing and waiting for 4 to 6 hours before nursing again will minimize the harmful effects to the baby.
Renal / hepatic impairment
[CAUTION] Penicillamine should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Penicillamine may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Use of Penicillamine is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. [SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Penicillamine is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease.
