Sodium Stibogluconate is an antibiotic. It is used in the treatment of kala-azar (a parasitic disease spread by the bite of infected sand flies). It inhibits the growth of the parasite and kills it, thus relieving your infection. Sodium Stibogluconate is given as an injection into a vein (intravenous) or muscle (intramuscular). Your doctor will decide which one is best for you. It is administered by a healthcare professional. Kindly do not self administer. Avoid skipping any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Some people may experience vomiting, headache, nausea, and diarrhea as the side effects of this medicine. You may also notice some injection site reactions like pain, swelling or redness. Please consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. Rarely, some people may have a severe allergic reaction which needs urgent medical attention.
