Description

Stanozolol is used in the treatment of hereditary angioedema. It prevents and decreases the episodes of symptoms such as swelling of the face, extremities, genitals, bowel wall, and throat. Stanozolol can be taken with or without food. It should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide the dose and how often you should take them. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not stop taking the medicine even if you feel better unless the doctor tells you so. Taking this medicine may cause few common side effects such as swelling of legs, ankle swelling, swelling of feet, fluid retention, and breast enlargement. Let your doctor know if any of these side effects bothers you. Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any problems with your heart, liver, or kidneys. You should also tell your doctor all the other medicines you are taking. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult with their doctors before using the medicine.

Mechanism of action

Stanozolol is a structural analogue of testosterone which increases collagen production and decreases the anti-anabolic action of cortisone. It is also reported to reduce fibrin deposition. It corrects the formation of kinin or kinin-like factors which may be associated with oedema and swelling seen in hereditary angioedema.

Dosage

Adult Dose: Oral Vascular manifestations of Behcet's syndrome Adult: 10 mg daily. Hereditary angioedema Adult: Initially, 2.5-10 mg daily, reduced according to response. Maintenance: 2 mg daily or on alternate days or 2.5 mg 3 times wkly. Intramuscular Osteopetrosis; Anaemia; Breast cancer in postmenopausal women; Catabolic disorders Adult: 50 mg every 2-3 wk. Child Dose: Oral Hereditary angioedema Child: <6 yr: 1 mg daily; 6-12 yr: Up to 2 mg daily.

Administration

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Stanozolol may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Side effects

Common: • Swelling of legs • Ankle swelling • Feet swelling • Edema (swelling) • Breast enlargement • Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping)

Precautions & warnings

[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] It is not known whether Stanozolol alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. You have been prescribed Stanozolol for the treatment of osteoporosis in women after menopause. It is given as an injection into muscle of upper arm or leg by your doctor. Inform your doctor if you develop male characteristics such as hoarseness, increased hair growth, acne and increased sex drive. Do not take Stanozolol if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Pregnancy and lactation; carcinoma of prostate or breast in men, hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, porphyria, severe hepatic impairment.

Drug interactions

Enhances activity of insulin, sulfonylureas, levothyroxine and anticoagulants e.g. warfarin. May cause resistance to the effects of neuromuscular blockers.

Food interactions

Use in pregnancy

u can&#x27;t use without assessment done by consultant In winter season my upper lip swells itself in a particular position. I feel itching from inside and it swells instantly and remain for at least 4 hours. What is the reason behind it? Could I get rid of this decease? Various mouth gels to counter the lesion have been given, like tablets like topicd 40, neasta , menabol, oncotrex 2.5, Tretiva 10, betadine gargle, Tacrox gel, a Penicillin injection and some anti biotics. Yet I have not been cured kindly help me. Do not start or continue valsartan, if you are dehydrated due to sickness, diarrhea or use of diuretics. Do not take valsartan, if you have history of swelling of eyes and lips (angioedema) or any disease of the heart (eg. ischemic heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiogenic shock, or heart attack).
