Pharmacology
Sodium Chloride is important for electrolyte and fluid balance, osmotic pressure control, and water distribution. Sodium Acetate provides a bicarbonate source through hepatic metabolic conversion, helping to prevent acidosis. Potassium Chloride is a major intracellular cation involved in nerve conduction, muscle contraction, and acid-base balance.
Dosage
Adult Dose (IV):
- As required; depends on patient's age, weight, and clinical condition
- Recommended flow rate: up to 100 drops/minute/70 kg body weight
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Febrile response
- Infection at injection site
- Venous thrombosis or phlebitis
- Extravasation
- Hypervolemia
- Severe burning, pain, or swelling around IV needle
- Warmth, redness, oozing, or bleeding at IV site
- Fever, ongoing cough

Use in Pregnancy: Caution during pregnancy; electrolyte imbalance may have detrimental effects; consult your doctor.
Precautions & warnings
- Caution in pregnancy, renal impairment, heart failure, pulmonary congestion
- Caution in patients receiving potassium-sparing diuretics
- Do not administer rapidly or for prolonged periods
Overdose effects
Overdose may cause electrolyte imbalance and hypervolemia; treatment: stop infusion, electrolyte monitoring and correction.
