Pharmacology
DHEA is the most abundant adrenal steroid hormone in the body. After it is made by the adrenal glands, it travels into cells throughout the body where it is converted into androgens, estrogens and other hormones. These hormones regulate fat and mineral metabolism, endocrine and reproductive function, and energy levels.
Dosage
Adrenal insufficiency: 50 mg/day for 3 months; Anorexia nervosa: 100 mg/day for 6 months; Diminished ovarian reserve: 50-75 mg/day; Major depressive disorder: 30-450 mg/day for 6-8 weeks; Metabolic syndrome: 100 mg/day for 3 months; Postmenopausal women: 25-50 mg/day.
Side effects
Common: Acne, hair loss, hair growth on the face (in women), aggressiveness, irritability, and increased levels of estrogen.
Rare: Rapid heartbeat, dizziness, blurred vision—discontinue use and seek medical attention.
Use in pregnancy
Do not use during pregnancy.

Precautions & warnings
Consult a physician if you have or have a family history of breast cancer, prostate cancer, prostate enlargement, heart disease, low HDL. Avoid in hypertension and thyroid disorders.
