Description
Albendazole (Vet) is a broad-spectrum dewormer which belongs to the group of benzimidazole derivatives.Albendazole (Vet) is active against gastrointestinal roundworms and tapeworms in Poultry, cattle, sheep & goats. Albendazole (Vet) interferes with the parasites' energy production and structural integrity, leading to their death or expulsion from the host animal.
Indications
Albendazole (Vet) use as an antiparasitic.
Mechanism of action
Albendazole inhibits polymerization of tubulin causes loss of cytoplasmic microtubules that leads to impaired uptake of glucose, depletes glycogen stores, degenerative change in the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria & decreases the production of ATP. It also inhibits the enzyme fumarate reductase which is a co-enzyme in many cellular oxidation-reduction reactions result no energy production and immobilization and death of parasites.
Dosage
Dose: Cattle & Buffaloes: Roundworms, Tapeworms, Lungworms: 7.5 mg/kg Liver Flukes: 10 mg/kg Sheep & Goats: Roundworms, Tapeworms, Lungworms: 5 mg/kg Liver Flukes: 7.5 mg/kg Horses: Roundworms, Pinworms: 7.5 mg/kg Lungworms: 25 (b.i.d.) for 5 days Dogs & Cats: Roundworms, Whipworms, Hookworms, Tapeworms, Lungworms, Bladder worms, Liver flukes 15 mg/kg.
Administration
Take Albendazole (Vet) in the dose and duration as advised by Registered Veterinary Physician.
Side effects
Albendazole is time tested and clinically proven well tolerated drug. Established wide safety margin than any other anthelmintic due to the greater selective affinity for parasitic b-tubulin than for animal tissues. However, in some cases nausea and vomiting may occur.
Precautions & warnings
Before using Albendazole inform the registered Veterinarian that your animals are not allergic to it or to other benzimidazole anthelmintic drugs (e.g. Mebendazole).
Contraindications
Albendazole should be used with caution in animals that are hypersensitive to the medication.
Drug interactions
Cimetidine, Praziquantel and Dexamethasone have been reported to increase the plasma levels of Albendazole active metabolite.
Use in pregnancy
Albendazole may be used the first 45 days of pregnancy of cow. Do not administer to ewes or does during the first 30 days of pregnancy. Sufficient data on use during lactation is not available. Therefore breast feeding should be discontinued during and for a minimum of 5 days after treatment.
Storage conditions
Keep away from light and store in a cool, dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
