Generic
Biotin(B7)+Vitamin B1,B2,B6&B12
At a glance
This formulation is a specific combined vitamin B preparation containing Biotin (B7) along with Vitamin B1, B2, Pyridoxine (B6), Folic Acid (B9), and Cyanocobalamin (B12), designed to meet distinct nutritional requirements, support metabolic functions, and manage hyperhomocysteinemia or nutrient malabsorption.
Indications
Indicated for distinct nutritional requirements in hyperhomocysteinemia, nutrient malabsorption, inadequate dietary intake, and individuals with or at risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease (coronary, peripheral, or cerebral) or neurological disorders.
Therapeutic class
Specific combined vitamin preparations, Vitamin-B preparations
Pharmacological class
Water-soluble vitamins / Nutritional supplements / Coenzymes
Pharmacology
Pyridoxine (B6) functions in carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism, Hb formation, and GABA synthesis. Folic Acid (B9) is essential for purine/pyrimidine synthesis and erythropoiesis. Cyanocobalamin (B12) is vital for growth, hematopoiesis, myelin synthesis, and homocysteine conversion. Biotin (B7) acts as a coenzyme in fatty acid synthesis and gluconeogenesis, supporting skin, hair, and cell proliferation.
Mechanism of action
Acts cooperatively as essential coenzymes in cellular metabolism, nucleic acid synthesis, red blood cell production, homocysteine remethylation, and nervous system maintenance.
Dosage
Usual adult dose is one to two tablets daily or as directed by a physician.
Administration
Administered orally with or after meals as directed by a physician.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose.
Side effects
Allergic sensitization with folic acid; paresthesia, somnolence, nausea, and headache with pyridoxine; mild transient diarrhea, itching, transitory exanthema, and sensation of body swelling with cyanocobalamin.
Precautions & warnings
Folic acid doses above 0.1 mg daily may obscure pernicious anemia while neurological symptoms progress. Unmetabolized folic acid may reduce natural killer cell cytotoxicity, impairing immune response.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components in the product.
Drug interactions
Pyridoxine antagonizes the action of levodopa (though it can be used with carbidopa-levodopa combinations). Phenytoin effectiveness may be decreased when used concurrently with folic acid.
Food interactions
No specific food interactions have been reported, but a balanced diet enhances optimal utilization of these vitamins.
Use in pregnancy
Pregnancy category not classified. Use should be guided by a physician's advice based on individual nutritional requirements.
Use in lactation
Consult a physician before use during lactation to ensure safety for the nursing infant.
Pediatric use
Safety and effectiveness in children should be determined strictly by a pediatrician based on individual deficiency states.
Geriatric use
Generally well-tolerated in elderly patients to support nutritional requirements and neurological health, under medical supervision.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Use with caution in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment, and consult a physician for appropriate dose management.
Overdose effects
Overdose of water-soluble vitamins is generally rare as excess amounts are excreted, but high doses of individual components (like B6) can cause toxicity over time. Seek medical attention if overdose occurs.
Storage conditions
Store in a cool and dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
