Description

Dibucaine topical is a local anesthetic agent. It is used to treat minor pain, itching, irritation in the ears. Dibucaine topical is to be administered only in the affected ear and you should use it in a dose and duration as prescribed by the doctor. If your condition does not improve or gets worse, you should stop using it and talk to your doctor. If you experience an accidental exposure of the medicine into your eyes, nose, mouth or vagina rinse with water. The most common side effects of this medicine are mild irritation/discomfort in the ear, dizziness, headache, earache, or changes in taste may occur. These are usually mild and short-lived. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects persist or worry you. Before using it, tell your doctor if you have an underlying disease or are taking medicines for heart rhythm problems. The medicines that are used externally usually do not get affected by other medicines, however, you should let your doctor know if you are taking any medicines to ensure safety. Ask your healthcare team for advice if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dibucaine topical is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking the transmission of pain signals from the nerves to the brain. This helps to decrease the sensation of pain.

Mechanism of action

Amide-type local anesthetics stabilize neuronal membranes and prevent generation/conduction of nerve impulses by reducing sodium permeability and increasing action potential threshold

Dosage

Adult Dose: Topical Pain Apply topically to affected area up to 3-4 times/day; do not exceed 30 g/day Child Dose: Topical Pain 2 years (and >15 kg): Apply topically to affected area up to 3-4 times/day; do not exceed 7.5 g/day

Administration

This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the ear without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside ear.

Precautions & warnings
