Description
Flucytosine is an antifungal medicine used to treat severe infections caused by fungus. It is combined with other medicines, to relieve yeast and fungal infections affecting the entire body. It slows the growth of fungus and kills it, thus treating the infection. Flucytosine should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It should be taken with or without food, preferably at a fixed time. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose. Some people may experience some side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rash. Inform your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding. Flucytosine kills and slows the growth of fungus by interfering with protein and DNA synthesis.

Use in pregnancy

It should not be used in kidney disease patients if there are no facilities available for measuring the blood levels of this medicine.
