Ticlopidine Hydrochloride

Ticlopidine Hydrochloride is a medicine used to prevent stroke in people for whom aspirin has failed to work or is not suitable. It lowers the chances of another stroke in people who have already suffered a stroke or a mini-stroke (brief stroke-like attack that resolves within a few minutes to hours). Ticlopidine Hydrochloride is an antiplatelet medicine or a blood thinner, which works by reducing the formation of harmful blood clots in blood vessels and thereby helps to prevent a stroke. It may also be prescribed along with aspirin to people who have undergone angioplasty (stent placement in blocked blood vessels of the heart). This helps to prevent blockage of a stent by blood clots. It should be taken with food, preferably at the same time each day. It is important to keep taking this medicine regularly even if you feel well. If you stop taking this medicine, it may increase your chance of having a stroke. The most common side effects of Ticlovil 250mg Tablet are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, rash, and decreased white blood cell count. Some people may develop bleeding as a side effect with this medicine, which may be in the form of bruising, nose bleeds, blood in urine or stools (black-colored stools), or heavier periods than usual in women. Consult your doctor straight away if the bleeding persists or worries you. Ticlopidine Hydrochloride is not suitable for some people. Do not take it if you are bleeding from anywhere in the body such as a stomach ulcer or bleeding within the brain, or if you have severe liver problems, or if you have blood formation related problems (eg. aplastic anemia, neutropenia, etc.). Your doctor will check your complete blood count (CBC) before starting this medicine and then monitor it periodically during treatment. This medicine may need to be stopped temporarily before planned surgery or dental treatment. Ticlopidine Hydrochloride is an antiplatelet medication. It works by preventing platelets from sticking together, thereby decreasing the formation of harmful blood clots. This lowers the chance of stroke or heart attack.

Ticlopidine inhibits adenosine diphosphate-mediated platelet aggregation.

Adult Dose: Oral Prophylaxis of thrombotic stroke; Ischaemic heart disease; Intermittent claudication Adult: >18 yr: 250 mg bid. Prophylaxis of subacute stent occlusion after intracoronary stenting Adult: >18 yr: 250 mg bid for 4 wk, in conjunction with aspirin, starting at the time of stent placement. Hepatic impairment: Severe: contraindicated. Child Dose: <18 years old: safety & efficacy not established Renal Dose: Renal impairment: Dose reduction or discontinuance if haemorrhagic or haematopoietic complications occur.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Ticlopidine Hydrochloride is to be taken with food.

If you miss a dose of Ticlopidine Hydrochloride, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Common: • Decreased white blood cell count • Diarrhea • Nausea • Vomiting

[UNSAFE] Ticlopidine Hydrochloride may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur. Take it with food to help you lower your chance of having an upset stomach like nausea and vomiting. Do not discontinue using the medicine without consulting your doctor as this may increase your chances of having another heart attack or stroke. You may be asked for regular blood tests to monitor CBC( complete blood count). Inform your doctor if you experience decreased white blood cells(WBC) and any infection. Ticlopidine Hydrochloride may lower your ability to fight off infections and make you more susceptible to them. Tell your doctor right away if you have any signs of infection (e.g., fever, cough, sore throat and chills)

Pre-existing or history of blood dyscrasias; haemostatic disorder or active pathological bleeding (eg. bleeding peptic ulcer, intracranial bleeding); severe hepatic dysfunction. Hypersensitivity. Lactation.

Reduced clearance with cimetidine; corticosteroid may antagonise effects on bleeding time. Avoid concurrent use with clopidogrel. Potentially Fatal: Risk of haemorrhage increased with NSAIDs and oral anticoagulants; decreased metabolism of theophylline, phenytoin and bupropion.

[UNSAFE] It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Ticlopidine Hydrochloride.

[SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Ticlopidine Hydrochloride is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.

[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] Ticlopidine Hydrochloride is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.

[CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR] There is limited information available on the use of Ticlopidine Hydrochloride in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor. [CAUTION] Ticlopidine Hydrochloride should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Ticlopidine Hydrochloride may be needed. Please consult your doctor. Regular monitoring of liver function test is advisable while you are taking this medicine.
