Empagliflozin + Metformin Hydrochloride is a combination medicine used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death.

- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Pharmacology
Empagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that reduces renal glucose reabsorption and increases urinary glucose excretion. Metformin Hydrochloride is a biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.
Dosage
Adult Dose: Starting dose: empagliflozin 5 mg + metformin 500 mg once daily. Gradually increase to maximum empagliflozin 25 mg + metformin 2000 mg/day.
Renal Dose: eGFR <45 mL/min/1.73 m²: Contraindicated.

Use in pregnancy
Should not be used during pregnancy.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Precautions & warnings
- Empagliflozin + Metformin Hydrochloride is used alone or with other diabetes medicines to control blood sugar.
- It may cause loss of too much fluid (dehydration) or frequent urination. Drink plenty of water.
- May cause hypoglycemia when used with other antidiabetic medicines.
- Can cause genital fungal and/or urinary tract infections; practice good hygiene.
- Monitor blood sugar regularly.
- Inform doctor if you experience constant dizziness, joint pain or unexplained nausea/vomiting.
Overdose effects
Overdose may cause lactic acidosis, hypoglycemia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Hemodialysis is the most effective method to remove lactate and metformin.
