Silodosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist used for the treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It relaxes muscles in the prostate and bladder to improve urine flow.
Indications
- Signs and symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- Recommended: 8 mg once daily with a meal
- Moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-50): 4 mg once daily
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Retrograde ejaculation
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Dizziness, headache
- Nasal congestion
- Diarrhea
Precautions & warnings
- Postural hypotension (dizziness) may develop when starting treatment
- Do not use with other alpha-blockers
- Inform ophthalmologist before cataract surgery (IFIS risk)
- Do not use in severe renal or hepatic impairment
