He was Senior Consultant of Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital. He was the Founder, Professor and Chief Oncologist of NorthEast Cancer Hospital, Sylhet. Prof. Akram is also known for as he was the Founder Chairman of Oncology Department of BSMMU.

He has obtained numerous clinical trainings on Medical and Radiation Oncology from different world class institutions such as Tata Memorial Hospital (India), German Cancer Research Institute (Germany), National Cancer Centre (Singapore), Harvard University (USA).
