Chloramphenicol 0.5% + Dexamethasone 0.1% Eye/Ear drop is a prescription medicine having a combination of medicines that is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye or ear. It stops the growth of the bacteria. Chloramphenicol 0.5% + Dexamethasone 0.1% Eye/Ear drop is to be used only in the affected eye or ear in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. Wash your hands before using this medicine. It is advised to check the label for directions before use. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Eye (Bacterial Conjunctivitis): 1-2 drops every 2 hours for 2 days, then 1-2 drops every 4 hours for the next 5 days.

Eye (Corneal Ulcers): 2 drops every 15 minutes for first 6 hours, then 2 drops every 30 minutes for remainder of first day; 2 drops hourly on 2nd day; 2 drops every 4 hours on days 3-14.

Ear: 2-3 drops every 2-3 hours initially; frequency decreased gradually as clinical signs improve.

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye/ear without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid or ear. Wipe off extra liquid.

If you miss a dose of Chloramphenicol 0.5% + Dexamethasone 0.1% Eye/Ear drop, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If Chloramphenicol is absorbed from eye when taking anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin), there may be an increase in the effect of this medicine. Action of Chloramphenicol will be inhibited if given simultaneously with Phenobarbital. Therapeutic efficacy of Dexamethasone may be reduced with concomitant administration of phenytoin, phenobarbitone, ephedrine and rifampicin.
