Clioquinol 1% + Flumetasone Pivalate 0.02% Ear prep is a combination medicine used for the treatment of inflammation of the external ear, especially with suspected secondary infection. Flumetasone pivalate is a moderately potent glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, vasoconstrictive and anti-proliferative effects. Clioquinol is a bacteriostatic agent active against a broad spectrum of pathogenic micro-organisms, including fungi and gram-positive bacteria (e.g., staphylococci). It has only a moderate inhibitory effect on gram-negative bacteria.

Pharmacology
Flumetasone pivalate is a moderately potent glucocorticoid, usually used for local application. It has an anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, vasoconstrictive and anti-proliferative effect. Clioquinol is a bacteriostatic agent that is active against a broad spectrum of pathogenic micro-organisms, including fungi and gram-positive bacteria (e.g., staphylococci). It has only a moderate inhibitory effect on gram-negative bacteria.
Mechanism of action
Flumetasone pivalate reduces inflammation and allergy with vasoconstrictive and anti-proliferative effects. Clioquinol inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ear Drops): Inflammation of the external ear with suspected secondary infection: Instill 2-3 drops twice daily directly into the auditory canal of the affected ear. Recommended treatment duration: 7-10 days. Patient should be seated or lying down with the treated ear turned upwards during application. Maintain this position for at least 1-2 minutes after application.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Clioquinol 1% + Flumetasone Pivalate 0.02% Ear prep, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Irritation at the site of application (burning sensation, itching or skin rash)
- Hair discolouration
Serious Side Effects (Rare): Adrenal suppression (with prolonged use).
Precautions & warnings
- Prolonged use may lead to adrenal suppression.
- Preparation should not come into contact with the conjunctiva.
- Discontinue treatment if there is severe irritation or sensitisation or if there is no improvement after 1 week of application.
- Caution during pregnancy and lactation.
- Do not use in tympanic membrane perforation.
- Do not use in children under 2 years.

- Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation or iodine
- Primary bacterial, viral or fungal infections of the outer ear
- Tympanic membrane perforation
- Children under 2 years
