Clotrimazole 1% + Hydrocortisone 1% Topical

Clotrimazole 1% + Hydrocortisone 1% Topical is a combination of medicines that is used to treat various types of skin infections. It minimizes symptoms of inflammation such as redness, swelling, and itching. It also prevents the growth of infection-causing microorganisms to promote faster healing of infections. Clotrimazole 1% + Hydrocortisone 1% Topical is only meant for external use and should be used as advised by your doctor. A thin layer of the medicine should be applied only to the affected areas of the skin with clean and dry hands. Wash your hands before and after applying the medicine. If it gets into your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina rinse with water.

Clotrimazole 1% + Hydrocortisone 1% Topical is a combination of two medicines: Clotrimazole and Hydrocortisone which treat fungal skin infections. Clotrimazole is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi by preventing them from forming their own protective covering. Hydrocortisone is a steroid. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy.

• Dermatomycoses due to dermatophytes (Trichophyton species), moulds and other fungi
• Dermatomycoses due to yeasts (Candida species)
• Skin diseases showing secondary infection with these fungi
• Nappy rash (with Candida albicans infection)

Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent active on dermatophytes, yeasts and other fungi. Hydrocortisone is a glucocorticoid with both glucocorticoid and to a lesser extent mineralocorticoid activity. Hydrocortisone is used for replacement therapy in adrenocortical insufficiency.

Clotrimazole kills fungi by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis in the fungal cell membrane. Hydrocortisone reduces inflammation, redness, and itching by blocking inflammatory mediators.

Adult & Pediatric Dose: Apply thinly and evenly to the affected area twice daily.

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

If you miss a dose of Clotrimazole 1% + Hydrocortisone 1% Topical, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.

Common Side Effects:

• Mild burning at application site
• Burning sensation
• Itching
• Redness

Rare Side Effects: Hypersensitivity reactions.

• For external use only.
• In infants, napkins may act as an occlusive dressing and increase absorption.
• Treatment should be for a maximum period of seven days.
• Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina.
• Caution during pregnancy and lactation.

• Hypersensitivity to any of the components of this preparation.

No food interactions have been found or established.

[SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Clotrimazole 1% + Hydrocortisone 1% Topical is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies. Pregnancy Category C.

[SAFE IF PRESCRIBED] Clotrimazole 1% + Hydrocortisone 1% Topical is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.

Pediatric dose: Apply twice daily. In infants, napkins may act as an occlusive dressing, so caution is required.

Limited information is available regarding dose adjustment for elderly patients.

For topical use, no dose adjustment is required in renal or hepatic impairment.

Overdose may cause severe irritation. Consult a physician if overdose is suspected.

Store in a cool and dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
