Cyanocobalamin + Elemental Iron + Folic Acid is a combination supplement used for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia and megaloblastic anemia. Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is required for the maintenance of normal erythropoiesis, nucleoprotein and myelin synthesis, cell reproduction and normal growth. Iron is an essential component in the formation of hemoglobin and is necessary for effective erythropoiesis. Folic acid is required for nucleoprotein synthesis and the maintenance of normal erythropoiesis.

Pharmacology
Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is required for the maintenance of normal erythropoiesis, nucleoprotein and myelin synthesis, cell reproduction and normal growth. Iron is an essential component in the formation of hemoglobin; adequate amounts of iron are necessary for effective erythropoiesis. Folic acid is required for nucleoprotein synthesis and the maintenance of normal erythropoiesis.
Mechanism of action
Vitamin B12 plays a role in cell replication and hematopoiesis. Iron works to transport oxygen via hemoglobin. Folic acid is required for nucleoprotein synthesis and prevents neural tube defects during pregnancy.
Dosage
Adult Dose: 1-2 capsules daily.
Pediatric Dose: 1 capsule daily.
Administration
Take 1-2 capsules daily or as advised by the physician. Can be taken with or without food.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of this supplement, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.

Precautions & warnings
- Iron chelates with antacids and tetracycline, so absorption may be impaired if used concurrently.
- Higher doses of folic acid may be required during pregnancy.
- Excessive iron intake can be toxic; do not exceed the recommended dose.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to folic acid, cyanocobalamin, pyridoxine, or any component of the formulation.
Drug interactions
Cyanocobalamin: Absorption reduced by antibiotics, aminosalicylic acid, anticonvulsants, biguanides, cholestyramine, cimetidine, colchicine, potassium salts, methyldopa.
Elemental Iron: Antacids may decrease the absorption of carbonyl iron.
Folic Acid: Antiepileptics, oral contraceptives, anti-TB drugs, alcohol, aminopterin, methotrexate, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim and sulphonamides may result in decreased serum folate concentrations. Decreases serum phenytoin concentrations.
Food interactions
Can be taken with or without food.
Use in pregnancy
Higher doses of folic acid may be required during pregnancy. Pregnancy Category: A (at proper doses).
Pregnancy Category: A — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Considered safe during breastfeeding.
Pediatric use
Pediatric dose: 1 capsule daily.
Geriatric use

Overdose effects
Iron overdose can be toxic. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and dark stools.
