Description
Dexamethasone (Corticosteroids) suppress inflammatory response to a variety of agents. Neomycin Sulphate is active against Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, and Haemophilus influenzae. Polymyxin B Sulphate is active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Pharmacology
Dexamethasone (Corticosteroids) suppress inflammatory response to a variety of agents. Neomycin Sulphate is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Polymyxin B Sulphate is active against gram-negative bacteria, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Mechanism of action
Dexamethasone reduces inflammation; Neomycin and Polymyxin B destroy bacterial cell walls and membranes to prevent bacterial infection.
Dosage
Adult: Apply 1-2 drops to each affected eye up to 6 times daily (or more frequently if required). Severe infections may require 1-2 drops every 15-20 minutes initially, then gradually reduce frequency.
Administration
Wash hands, tilt head back, apply drops into the lower eyelid. Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or skin. Press finger into the corner of the eye by the nose after application.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose.
Side effects
Common: Allergic sensitisation.
Steroid-related: Elevation of intraocular pressure (optic nerve damage), posterior subcapsular cataract formation, delayed wound healing.
Precautions & warnings
Prolonged use should be avoided (may lead to skin sensitisation and resistant organisms). Due to risk of steroid glaucoma and cataract formation, intraocular pressure and lens must be checked frequently.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any component; herpes simplex and other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva; fungal disease; ocular tuberculosis.
Drug interactions

Food interactions
Can be used with or without food.
Use in pregnancy
Pregnancy Category C. Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Unknown if excreted in breast milk; minimal systemic absorption with ophthalmic administration.
Pediatric use
Safety and effectiveness in pediatric populations have not been established.
Geriatric use
No specific dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients.
Renal / hepatic impairment
No special precautions are necessary for patients with kidney or liver problems.
Overdose effects
