Description

Dextran & Hypromellose combination eye drops acts like natural tears, providing smooth relief to dry, itchy, burning and irritated eyes. Hypromellose promotes corneal wetting by stabilizing and thickening the precorneal tear film and prolonging the tear film breakup time. Dextran produces expansion of plasma volume, reduces blood viscosity and inhibits sludging of red blood cells.

Pharmacology

Dextran & Hypromellose combination eye drops acts like natural tears, providing smooth relief to dry, itchy, burning and irritated eyes. Hypromellose promotes corneal wetting by stabilizing and thickening the precorneal tear film and prolonging the tear film breakup time. Dextran produces expansion of plasma volume, reduces blood viscosity and inhibits sludging or aggregation of red blood cells.

Mechanism of action

Hypromellose stabilizes and thickens the tear film, while Dextran helps retain moisture on the eye surface, providing relief for dry eyes.

Dosage

Adult: 1 drop 4 times daily or as required, depending upon the severity of the disease, to be instilled into the conjunctival sac.

Administration

For ophthalmic use only. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Contact lenses should not be worn during instillation; wait at least 30 minutes before reinsertion.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose.

Side effects

Common: Occasional mild-transient burning or sticky sensation, blurred vision after application.
Rare: Irritation or hypersensitivity reactions.

Precautions & warnings

Patients who experience blurred vision should not drive or use machinery until vision has cleared. Contact lenses should not be worn during instillation; wait 30 minutes before reinsertion.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the product.

Drug interactions

Dextran: Enzyme inducers (phenytoin, carbamazepine) and enzyme inhibitors (cimetidine) may interact.
Sodium Chloride: May affect serum concentrations of lithium.
