Description
Dextrose & Hartmann's Solution is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution for fluid and electrolyte replenishment and caloric supply in a single dose container for intravenous administration. Each 100 ml contains 5 gm Dextrose, 600 mg Sodium Chloride, 310 mg Sodium Lactate, 30 mg Potassium Chloride, and 20 mg Calcium Chloride.

Pharmacology

Side effects
Common: Allergic reactions or anaphylactoid symptoms (localized or generalized urticaria, pruritus, periorbital/facial/laryngeal edema, coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing) - reported more frequently in women during pregnancy.
Precautions & warnings
Do not use if the solution is cloudy, contains particles, or is expired. Infusion should be immediately discontinued if rigor arises during the process.
Contraindications
Known allergy to corn or corn products (solutions containing dextrose).

Use in pregnancy
Pregnancy Category C. Should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation

Pediatric use
Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established; caution required in neonates and low weight infants due to risk of hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia.
Geriatric use
Clinical studies did not include sufficient numbers of subjects aged 65 and over.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Dosage adjustment may be needed in patients with kidney or liver problems (as directed by physician).
Overdose effects
Treatment of overdose is symptomatic.
