Description

Coal Tar has antipruritic, keratoplastic and keratolytic properties. It slows down excessive epidermal cell turnover. Salicylic Acid has a potent keratolytic action that softens and destroys the stratum corneum. Precipitated Sulphur is converted to hydrogen sulfide which kills bacteria and fungi.

Pharmacology

Coal Tar has antipruritic, keratoplastic and keratolytic properties. Precipitated Sulphur kills bacteria and fungi. Salicylic Acid has a potent keratolytic action that softens and destroys the stratum corneum.

Mechanism of action

Coal Tar slows excessive skin cell growth; Salicylic Acid removes dead skin cells; Sulphur kills bacteria and fungi to reduce scalp scaling and inflammation.

Dosage

Adults, >12 years and elderly: Apply to affected areas and remove after one hour with warm water and shampoo. Repeat daily for 3-7 days until control is obtained.
Children (6-12 years): To be used under medical supervision only.
Children under 6 years: Not recommended.

Administration

For external use only. Part the hair and apply a thin ribbon of ointment to the affected areas. Avoid contact with the eyes. Wash hands immediately afterwards.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose.

Side effects

Common: Occasionally irritation of the skin, inflammation of the hair follicles, rarely photosensitivity.

Precautions & warnings

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. Discontinue use if irritation develops. If symptoms persist after four weeks, consult your doctor.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to sulfur, salicylates, or coal tar; local infections.
