Dorzolamide 2% + Timolol 0.5% Eye prep is used to reduce pressure in the eyes. This pressure can be caused by or lead to glaucoma. It works by decreasing the amount of fluid inside the eye.
Description
Dorzolamide 2% + Timolol 0.5% Eye prep is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor and beta-blocker combination. It works by decreasing production of aqueous humour, lowering increased eye pressure.

Pharmacology
Timolol maleate, a nonselective beta-adrenergic blocker, reduces aqueous humor formation. Dorzolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, decreases aqueous humor secretion by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes.
Mechanism of action
Timolol reduces aqueous humor formation. Dorzolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes, decreasing aqueous humor secretion, resulting in reduced intraocular pressure.
Dosage
Adult Dose: 1 drop in the affected eye twice daily.
Child Dose (over 2 years): 1 drop in the affected eye twice daily.
Renal Dose: CrCl <30: Not recommended.
Administration
For external use only. Use in the dose and duration as advised. Hold dropper close to the eye without touching, gently squeeze and place inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Dorzolamide 2% + Timolol 0.5% Eye prep, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to regular schedule.

Precautions & warnings
- Lowers high eye pressure and reduces risk of vision loss.
- Apply pressure on the corner of the eye for 1 minute after instilling the drop.
- Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface or eye.
- Remove contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before re-inserting.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component or sulphonamide
- Bronchial asthma, severe COPD, sinus bradycardia, 2nd/3rd degree AV block, cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock, CrCl <30, hyperchloremic acidosis
Drug interactions
Additive hypotension and bradycardia with oral calcium channel blockers, catecholamine-depleting drugs, beta-blockers, antiarrhythmics, digitalis glycosides, parasympathomimetics, narcotics and MAOIs.

Use in pregnancy
Dorzolamide 2% + Timolol 0.5% Eye prep may be unsafe during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects. Doctor will weigh benefits and risks.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Probably safe during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests no significant risk to the baby. To reduce drug reaching breastmilk, apply pressure on eye corner for 1 minute.
Pediatric use
Under 2 years: Safety and efficacy not established.
Geriatric use
No overall differences in safety and effectiveness between elderly and other adults.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Renal impairment: CrCl <30: Not recommended.
Hepatic impairment: No interaction found/established.
Overdose effects
Limited information on overdose. Overdose is generally not toxic.
Storage conditions
Store in a cool & dry place, protect from light. Do not use longer than one month after first opening. Keep out of reach of children.
