Fluocinolone Acetonide + Neomycin Sulfate

Fluocinolone Acetonide + Neomycin Sulfate is a combination cream suitable for treating a wide variety of local inflammatory, pruritic and allergic disorders of the skin. It is particularly suitable for conditions such as eczema and dermatitis where secondary bacterial infection is present or likely to occur.

Fluocinolone acetonide is a corticosteroid primarily used in dermatology to reduce skin inflammation and relieve itching. Neomycin Sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis to stop bacterial growth.

• Eczema and Dermatitis: Atopic eczema, seborrhoeic eczema, discoid eczema, otitis externa, contact dermatitis, neurodermatitis.
• Other Inflammatory Conditions: Prurigo, Psoriasis, Lichen planus, Discoid lupus erythematosus.
• Secondary Bacterial Infection: Inflammatory dermatoses where secondary bacterial infection is present or likely to occur.

Corticosteroid + Aminoglycoside Antibiotic

Fluocinolone acetonide is a corticosteroid primarily used in dermatology to reduce skin inflammation and relieve itching. It is a synthetic hydrocortisone derivative. Neomycin Sulfate is actively transported across the bacterial cell membrane, binds to a specific receptor protein on the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, and interferes with an initiation complex between mRNA and the 30S subunit, inhibiting protein synthesis.

Fluocinolone Acetonide reduces inflammation and itching; Neomycin Sulfate inhibits bacterial protein synthesis to stop bacterial growth.

Adult Dose (Topical):

• Apply a small quantity of cream lightly up to two or three times a day, and massage gently and thoroughly into the skin.
• These recommendations apply to both children and adults, including the elderly.

For external use only. Use in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

If you miss a dose of this cream, apply it as soon as possible; however, if it is almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose.

Side Effects: Side-effects are extremely rare, but as with all topical corticosteroids, patient may show hypersensitivity reaction.

Precautions:

• Appropriate anti-infective cover should be given in the presence of viral or fungal infection.
• Prolonged use should be avoided in conditions where absorption of neomycin is possible.
• Do not apply to the external auditory canal of patients with perforated eardrums.
• Long-term continuous topical steroid therapy can produce atrophic skin changes.
• Do not apply to the face for prolonged periods.
• Prolonged use or treatment of extensive areas can produce adrenal suppression, especially in infants and children.

Contraindications:

• Primary infections of the skin
• Rosacea, acne, perioral dermatitis
• Anogenital pruritis and napkin eruption
• Known hypersensitivity to neomycin

Drug Interactions: No significant interactions known (minimal systemic absorption due to topical use).

Food Interactions: No interaction found/established.

Use in Pregnancy: Topical administration of corticosteroids to pregnant animals can cause abnormalities of fetal development (cleft palate, intrauterine growth retardation); there may be a small risk to human fetus; minimize amount and length of treatment if necessary.

Use in Lactation: Corticosteroids are excreted in breast milk; caution required.

Pediatric Use: Same as adult dose; prolonged use may cause adrenal suppression, especially in infants and children.

Geriatric Use: Same as adult dose.

Renal Impairment: No specific precautions necessary (minimal systemic absorption due to topical use).

Hepatic Impairment: No specific precautions necessary (minimal systemic absorption due to topical use).

Overdose: Limited information on topical overdose; excessive use may cause skin irritation.

Storage: Keep below 30 degree C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
