Description

Introduction: Folic Acid + Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate is a special preparation of Folic Acid and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate. It is used for the treatment and prophylaxis of Folic Acid and Zinc deficiencies.

How it works: Zinc is an essential trace element required for human nutrition and involved in a number of body enzyme systems. Folic acid is a member of the B-Vitamins group and is reduced in the body to tetrahydrofolate, which is the coenzyme for various metabolic processes including the synthesis of DNA.

Important Information: Severe Zinc deficiency causes skin lesion, alopecia, diarrhoea, increased susceptibility of infections, cognitive impairment, etc. Deficiency of Folic Acid may cause megaloblastic anaemia.

Pharmacology

Zinc is an essential trace element required for human nutrition and involved in a number of body enzyme systems. Severe Zinc deficiency causes skin lesion, alopecia, diarrhoea, increased susceptibility of infections, cognitive impairment, etc. Folic Acid is a member of the B-Vitamins group. It is reduced in the body to tetrahydrofolate, which is the coenzyme for various metabolic processes including the synthesis of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides, and hence the synthesis of DNA. It is also involved in some amino acid conversions.

Mechanism of action

Folic acid aids in DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation. Zinc acts as a cofactor for enzyme systems and strengthens the immune system.

Dosage

Adult Dose:

  • Orally 1 tablet daily or as directed by the physician.

Administration

Oral tablet. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow whole.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule.

Side effects

  • Dyspepsia
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Fever
  • Respiratory distress

This combination is well tolerated at the recommended dose. Occasionally gastrointestinal disturbances may occur.

Precautions & warnings

Precautions:

  • Do not use folic acid in untreated cobalamine deficiency (may obscure pernicious anemia).
  • Recommended during pregnancy and lactation.
  • Large amounts of Calcium decrease the absorption of Zinc.
