At a glance
Fruity/Tasty ORS is used to restore fluid and electrolyte balance caused by diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration.
Description
Introduction: Fruity/Tasty ORS is an oral rehydration saline used to restore fluid and electrolyte balance caused by diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. It has a pleasant taste making it easier for children to take.
How it works: Potassium chloride is a major cation of intracellular fluid. Sodium chloride is the major extracellular cation which controls electrolyte and fluid balance. Sodium bicarbonate raises blood and urinary pH by providing bicarbonate ions. Dextrose and fructose act as sources of energy.
Important Information: Take specific amount of saline after each loose stool or vomiting. Use reconstituted saline within 6 hours.
Indications
- Diarrhea
- Dehydration
- Vomiting
- Fluid and Electrolytes imbalance
Therapeutic class

Pharmacology
Potassium chloride is a major cation of the intracellular fluid. Sodium chloride is the major extracellular cation important in electrolyte and fluid balance. Sodium bicarbonate raises blood and urinary pH by dissociation to provide bicarbonate ions, which neutralises the hydrogen ion concentration. Dextrose and fructose act as sources of energy and enhance sodium and water absorption from the intestine.
Mechanism of action
ORS prevents dehydration by enhancing sodium and water absorption from the intestine and restores lost electrolytes.
