Fusidic Acid 2% + Hydrocortisone Acetate 1% Topical

Introduction: Fusidic Acid 2% + Hydrocortisone Acetate 1% Topical is a combination cream used for eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, allergic dermatitis and irritant dermatitis with secondary bacterial infections.

How it works: Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive effects. Fusidic acid has antibacterial action that results from the inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis.

Important Information: Not to be used in or near the eye(s). Sufficient dermal absorption may occur under occlusive dressing leading to adrenal suppression and other systemic effects. Do not use for more than 2 weeks.

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive effects. Fusidic acid has antibacterial action that results from the inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis; it is mainly active towards the gram-positive organisms especially Staphylococcus aureus.

Hydrocortisone reduces inflammation, itching and redness. Fusidic acid inhibits bacterial protein synthesis to control infection.

Adult Dose:

• As cream/ointment containing hydrocortisone 1% and fusidic acid 2%: Apply to affected area(s) twice daily.
• Usual treatment duration: 2 weeks.

Child Dose (3+ years):

• Apply to affected area(s) twice daily until there is improvement.
• Usual treatment duration: 2 weeks.

Children under 3 years: Not recommended.

For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area and apply a thin layer of the cream. Wash your hands after applying.

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule.

Common Side Effects:

• Dryness
• Itching
• Burning
• Local irritation
• Transient stinging
• Striae
• Skin atrophy
• Pigmentation changes
• Hypertrichosis
• Telangiectasia

Precautions:

• Not to be used in or near the eye(s) (may cause conjunctival irritation, increased intraocular pressure, glaucoma and cataract).
• Avoid occlusive dressings (may cause adrenal suppression and other systemic effects).
• May mask hypersensitivity reactions.
• Do not use for more than 2 weeks.
• Caution in pregnancy and lactation.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to fusidic acid and its salts
• Bacterial infections caused by non-susceptible organisms
• Fungal infections
• Skin manifestations due to tuberculosis, syphilis
• Perioral dermatitis
• Rosacea

Drug Interactions:

• Fusidic Acid: Synergistic action with antistaphylococcal penicillin. Antagonism with ciprofloxacin.
• Hydrocortisone: Clearance may be increased by hepatic enzyme inducers (phenobarb, phenytoin, rifampin). Metabolism may be inhibited by troleandomycin and ketoconazole.

Food Interactions: No interaction found/established.

Use in Pregnancy: May be unsafe during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks.

Use in Lactation: Consult your doctor before use during breastfeeding.

Pediatric Use: Dosage available for children over 3 years. Not recommended for children under 3 years.

Geriatric Use: Use as per doctor's advice for elderly patients.

Renal & Hepatic Impairment: No known restrictions (minimal systemic absorption due to topical use).

Overdose: Overdose is unlikely when used as directed. Excessive use may cause skin irritation.

Storage: Store below 25°C, in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
