At a glance
Gentamicin 0.1% Topical is an antibiotic used for minor skin infections.
Description
Introduction: Gentamicin 0.1% Topical is an antibiotic used to treat minor skin infections (eg. folliculitis). It may also be used to treat infected cuts and wounds. This medicine stops the bacteria from growing, which helps to resolve your symptoms and cure the underlying infection.
How it works: Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside that binds to 30s and 50s ribosomal subunits of susceptible bacteria disrupting protein synthesis, thus rendering the bacterial cell membrane defective and stopping bacterial growth.
Important Information: For external use only. Apply to the affected area 3-4 times daily. Before application, wash the area with soap and water and dry thoroughly. If crusts are present, remove them before application to provide maximum contact with the infecting organisms.

Pharmacology
Gentamicin Sulphate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It is a proven bactericidal antibiotic active against Gram-positive & Gram-negative pathogens including E. coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and penicillin resistant strains of Staph. aureus. In common with other aminoglycoside antibiotics, it appears to interfere with protein synthesis of the bacterial cell.
Mechanism of action
Gentamicin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis on the ribosome, thereby stopping bacterial growth and reproduction.
