Introduction: Gentamicin 0.3% Topical is an antibiotic used for bacterial skin infections, burns, eczema, folliculitis, furunculosis, insect bites, lacerations and abrasions.
How it works: Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside that binds to 30s and 50s ribosomal subunits of susceptible bacteria disrupting protein synthesis, thus rendering the bacterial cell membrane defective.
Important Information: For external use only. Apply to the affected area 3-4 times daily. Clean the area before application.

Pharmacology
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside that binds to 30s and 50s ribosomal subunits of susceptible bacteria disrupting protein synthesis, thus rendering the bacterial cell membrane defective.
Mechanism of action
Gentamicin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis on the ribosome, thereby stopping bacterial growth and reproduction.
Dosage
Adult Dose:
- Apply to the affected area 3-4 times daily
Child Dose (1+ year):
- Apply to the affected area 3-4 times daily

Administration
For external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Clean and dry the affected area and gently massage the ointment.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, consult your doctor.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Erythema
- Pruritus
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- Caution with concurrent use of neuromuscular blocking agents.
- Caution in myasthenia gravis, parkinsonism.
- Caution in conditions predisposing to ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
- Monitor plasma concentrations in high doses or prolonged courses.
- Monitor auditory and renal functions.

- History of hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside
- Pregnancy
- Hepatic impairment
- Skin rash
Drug interactions
Drug Interactions:
- Synergistic with ampicillin, benzylpenicillin and other beta-lactam antibiotics
- Increased risk of severe respiratory depression with anaesthetics or opioids
- Increased incidence of ototoxicity with ethacrynic acid and furosemide

Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: Unsafe during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects.

Renal / hepatic impairment
Renal & Hepatic Impairment: Contraindicated in hepatic impairment. Caution in kidney disease.
