Glutaraldehyde

Introduction: Glutaraldehyde is a pungent colorless oily liquid, used to disinfect medical and dental equipment. It is also used for industrial water treatment and as a chemical preservative.

How it works: Glutaraldehyde is a bactericidal disinfectant which is rapidly effective against gram positive and gram-negative bacteria, viruses including HBV, HIV, fungi and spores.

Important Information: Can be used as sterilant at 25°C with 10 hours immersion and as high level disinfectant with 45 minutes immersion. Can be reused for up to maximum 14 days.

• Sterilant: At 25°C with immersion time of at least 10 hours
• High Level Disinfectant: At 25°C with immersion time of at least 45 minutes

Aldehyde Disinfectant

Glutaraldehyde is a bactericidal disinfectant which is rapidly effective against gram positive and gram-negative bacteria, viruses including HBV, HIV, fungi and spores.

Glutaraldehyde acts on proteins and nucleic acids of bacteria and viruses to disrupt their cellular activity.

Usage Procedure:

• Clean, rinse and rough dry devices before immersing
• Completely immerse medical devices in Glutaraldehyde Solution, filling all lumens
• Leave completely immersed for required time at 15°-30°C
• Sterilant: At 25°C with at least 10 hours immersion
• High Level Disinfectant: At 25°C with at least 45 minutes immersion

Activation: Add entire contents of Activator Vial, shake well

Reuse Period: Maximum 14 days

For professional use only. After activation, solution turns green. Record date of activation in logbook.

Toxicity (Ingestion):

• Intense pain
• Inflammation, ulceration and necrosis of mucous membranes
• Vomiting, haematemesis
• Blood-stained diarrhea
• Haematuria, anuria
• Metabolic acidosis
• Vertigo, convulsion
• Loss of consciousness and circulatory failure

Precautions:

• Avoid gastric lavage and emesis
• Give milk, water, charcoal or demulcents for prevention of absorption
• Assisted ventilation if indicated
• Acidosis may require IV sodium bicarbonate or sodium lactate

Contraindications:

• No specific contraindications, but avoid if hypersensitive to glutaraldehyde

Use in Pregnancy: Avoid occupational exposure. Use protective measures if necessary.

Use in Lactation: Avoid occupational exposure. Use protective measures if necessary.

Renal & Hepatic Impairment: Not applicable (for professional use).

Overdose: If ingested, seek immediate medical attention. Avoid gastric lavage and emesis.

Storage: Store within temperature 15°-25°C and protect from sunlight.
