Glycine 1.5% Irrigation solution

Introduction: Glycine 1.5% Irrigation solution is a sterile, nonpyrogenic aqueous solution that is used as an irrigant. This is used for irrigation during prostate and bladder surgeries and other urology procedures.

How it works: Glycine contains glycine which is an amino acid and a non-electrolyte. It is therefore non-conductive and suitable for irrigation purpose. Glycine Irrigation Solution minimizes the risk of intravascular haemolysis which can occur from absorption of plain water.

Important Information: The total volume of solution used for irrigation depends on the judgment of the attending surgeon. Not for injection in any route.

• Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP)
• Endoscopic procedures within the urinary tract
• Urinary bladder surgery

Amino Acid Irrigation Solution

Glycine irrigation solution contains glycine which is an amino acid and a non-electrolyte. It is therefore non-conductive and suitable for irrigation purpose. Glycine Irrigation Solution minimizes the risk of intravascular haemolysis which can occur from absorption of plain water. Glycine Irrigation Solution is rapidly degraded in the liver by glycine oxidase.

Glycine Irrigation Solution provides clear visibility during surgery and helps remove blood and tissue fragments from the surgical field.

Adult Dose:

• Irrigation solution is administered as drip through the bi-luminal catheter
• Can be continued as required
• Total volume depends on surgeon's judgment

Intravenous drip administration. Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Do not self-administer. Check infusion set and solution prior to use.

If you miss a dose, consult your doctor.

Common Side Effects (Systemic absorption):

• Nausea
• Drowsiness
• Upset stomach
• Vomiting
• Electrolyte loss
• Diuresis
• Edema, thirst, dehydration
• Cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders

Precautions:

• Patients with cardiovascular disease should be evaluated after TURP
• Caution if liver or kidney is impaired
• Aseptic technique is essential
• Unused portion should be discarded
• Do not use if bottle is leaking, solution is cloudy or contains particles

Contraindications:

• Anuria

Drug Interactions:

• Additives may be incompatible - use aseptic technique

Food Interactions:

• It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol. Please consult your doctor.

Use in Pregnancy: May be unsafe during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects.

Use in Lactation: Use with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until treatment is completed.

Pediatric Use: Use with caution and under physician supervision in children.

Geriatric Use: Use with caution and under physician supervision in elderly.

Renal Impairment: Use with caution in kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.

Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution in liver disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.

Overdose: Systemic absorption may cause electrolyte imbalance, dehydration and cardiovascular problems. Supportive care should be given.

Storage: Store at controlled room temperature, protect from light and heat.
