Indications
Helps loosen and clear mucus in productive cough and chest congestion.

Mechanism of action
Increases respiratory tract fluid, reducing mucus viscosity so it can be coughed up more easily.
Dosage
Adults: 200–400 mg every 4 hours, maximum 2400 mg/day. Children: lower, age-based dosing.
Administration
Take with plenty of water; good hydration aids mucus clearance.
Missed dose
Take when remembered; skip if the next dose is near.
Drug interactions
Few serious interactions; caution with other cough preparations.
Food interactions
May be taken with food if it upsets the stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the ingredient.
Side effects
Nausea, vomiting, dizziness (uncommon); usually mild.
