Guaiphenesin + Diphenhydramine + Levomenthol

Introduction: Guaiphenesin + Diphenhydramine + Levomenthol is a combination syrup used for relief of cough, associated congestive symptoms and aiding restful sleep.

How it works: Guaifenesin reduces the viscosity of tenacious sputum and is used as an expectorant. Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride possesses antitussive, antihistaminic, and anticholinergic properties. Levomenthol has mild local anesthetic and decongestant properties.

Important Information: Adults and children over 12 years: 2 teaspoonfuls syrup 4 times a day. Do not take more than 8 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours. May cause drowsiness - do not drive. Avoid alcohol.

• Do not take more than 8 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours

Oral syrup. Can be taken with or without food. Take in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule.

Common Side Effects:

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Gastrointestinal disturbance
• Dry mouth, nose and throat
• Difficulty in urination
• Blurred vision

Less frequently:

• Palpitations, tremor, convulsions or paraesthesia
• Hypersensitivity reactions (skin rashes, erythema, urticaria, angioedema)

Precautions:

• Do not use for persistent or chronic cough such as asthma or cough with excessive secretions
• May impair ability to drive or operate machinery
• Use with caution in narrow-angle glaucoma or symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy
• Avoid alcohol

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to the product or any of its constituents
• Children under 12 years
• Patients who have received MAOIs within last two weeks

Drug Interactions:

• Diphenhydramine may potentiate effects of alcohol, codeine, antihistamines and other CNS depressants
• Effects of anticholinergics (psychotropic drugs, atropine) may be potentiated

Food Interactions:

• Alcohol may increase drowsiness and CNS depression

Use in Pregnancy: Use with caution during pregnancy. Not associated with adverse effects in human fetus or suckling infant.

Use in Lactation: Use with caution during breastfeeding.

Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy not established for children under 12 years.

Geriatric Use: Use as per doctor's advice for elderly patients.

Renal Impairment: Caution in subjects with moderate to severe renal dysfunction.

Hepatic Impairment: Caution in subjects with moderate to severe hepatic dysfunction.

Overdose: Guaifenesin may cause renal calculi when taken in excess. Symptomatic and supportive treatment should be given.

Storage: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
