Halcinonide 0.1% Topical

Introduction: Halcinonide 0.1% Topical is a corticosteroid used for psoriasis, eczema, skin infections, corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses and burns.

How it works: Halcinonide exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictor actions. Corticosteroids are thought to act by the induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) which control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

Important Information: Apply a thin layer to the affected skin 2-3 times daily. Treatment beyond two consecutive weeks is not recommended.

Halcinonide exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictor actions. Corticosteroids are thought to act by the induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, collectively called lipocortins. These proteins control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor arachidonic acid.

Halcinonide reduces skin inflammation, itching and redness by inhibiting production of inflammatory mediators.

Adult Dose:

• Apply onto affected area 2-3 times daily
• Treatment beyond two consecutive weeks is not recommended

Child Dose:

• Apply onto affected area 1-3 times daily
• Limit to minimum amount necessary for therapeutic efficacy
• Treatment beyond two consecutive weeks is not recommended

For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin and rub in gently and completely. Avoid contact with eyes, nose and mouth.

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule.

Precautions:

• Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids may cause HPA axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia and glucosuria
• Patients applying to large areas or under occlusive dressing should be evaluated for HPA axis suppression
• Use with caution during lactation

Contraindications:

• History of hypersensitivity to any components

Drug Interactions: No significant interactions known.

Food Interactions: No interaction found/established.

Use in Pregnancy: May be unsafe during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects.

Use in Lactation: Excretion of topical corticosteroids in breast milk is unknown - use with caution.

Pediatric Use: Dosage available for children (see above).

Geriatric Use: Use as per doctor's advice for elderly patients.

Renal & Hepatic Impairment: Minimal systemic absorption due to topical use - no known restrictions.

Overdose: Excessive prolonged use may cause systemic corticosteroid effects - discontinue and consult doctor.

Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
