Description
Hepatitis A vaccine is a purified sterile suspension of inactivated Hepatitis A virus cultured in human diploid cells, followed by harvest, purification, inactivation by formaldehyde and aluminium hydroxide adsorption. It stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against Hepatitis A virus, providing protection against future infection.

Pharmacology
Hepatitis A virus belongs to the picornavirus family. It is one of several hepatitis viruses that cause systemic disease with pathology in the liver. The incubation period for hepatitis A averages 28 days (range: 15 to 50 days). The presence of antibodies to HAV confers protection against hepatitis A infection.
Mechanism of action
Inactivated Hepatitis A virus antigen stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies, providing protection against future HAV infection.
Dosage
Primary Immunization (2 doses):
- Children (12 months-15 years): 0.5 ml (1st dose: at elected date; 2nd dose: 6 months later)
- Children (16 years and above) & Adults: 1 ml (1st dose: at elected date; 2nd dose: 6 months later)
Child Dose: No data for children under 12 months
Administration
Administer intramuscularly only; inject in deltoid region in adults and children, anterolateral part of thigh in children under 1 year; do not inject in gluteal region, subcutaneously or intradermally; shake well before use; use immediately after opening.

- Pain and redness at injection site
- Fever after vaccination
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- Shake well before use
- Caution in patients with history of convulsion/epilepsy, chronic diseases and allergic symptoms
- Do not use if container cracked, foreign particulate matter, or expired
- Adrenaline should be prepared for serious allergic reactions
- Remain under medical supervision for 30 minutes after vaccination
- Do not freeze

- Allergy to any component of the vaccine
- Serious diseases, fever, and any immune disease
Drug interactions
Concomitant use with other inactivated vaccines possible (different syringes and sites); no interference with Hepatitis B, typhoid, yellow fever, cholera or tetanus vaccines; co-administration with human immune globulin possible (different sites).
