Influenza vaccine inactivated (split virion)

Influenza vaccine inactivated (split virion) is a vaccine that stimulates the body to generate immune response against influenza virus. It promotes immunity to influenza virus by inducing specific antibody formation. The vaccine should be administered before the beginning of the influenza season or as required by the epidemiological situation, and should be repeated every year with an age-appropriate dose of vaccine of updated antigen composition.

• Prevention of influenza in adults and children from six months and above, especially those with high risk of complications (children, senior citizens, susceptible individuals, those in influenza epidemic areas)

Adult Dose (Intramuscular):

• 0.5 ml (one dose every year)

Child Dose (Intramuscular):

• Children over 3 years: 0.5 ml (one dose every year)
• Children 6-36 months: 0.25 ml (one dose every year)
• Children <9 years not previously vaccinated: 2nd dose after at least 4 weeks

Local Reactions:

• Erythema (redness)
• Swelling
• Pain
• Ecchymosis
• Induration

Systemic Reactions:

• Fever
• Malaise
• Shivering
• Fatigue
• Headache
• Sweating
• Joint and muscular pain

Rare: Neuralgia, paresthesia, convulsions, transient thrombocytopenia, allergic reactions (shock), vasculitis (very rare)

Precautions:

• Vaccine contains traces of formaldehyde, octoxinol 9 (Triton X-100) and neomycin; caution in hypersensitivity to these substances
• History of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) related to influenza vaccination may increase risk of recurrence
• Immunisation should not be performed during febrile or acute illness
• Use in pregnancy & lactation: Safety not established; as inactivated vaccine, does not share theoretical risks of live vaccines

Contraindications:

• Known anaphylactic hypersensitivity reactions to egg proteins (eggs or egg products), chicken proteins, or any other component of the vaccine including traces (formaldehyde, octoxinol 9 (Triton X-100), neomycin)
• Febrile or acute illness

Drug Interactions:

• Immunosuppressants, antineoplastics or high doses of corticosteroids may reduce response to vaccines
• Increased antibody response with aldesleukin and aspirin
• May possibly increase anticoagulant effects of warfarin

Use in Pregnancy: Safety of use during pregnancy has not been established; as inactivated vaccine, does not share theoretical risks of live vaccines; benefits of vaccination should be weighed against potential risks.

Use in Lactation: It is not known if this is excreted in human milk; as inactivated vaccine, does not share theoretical risks of live vaccines; caution should be used when administering vaccine to breastfeeding women.
