Description

Molnupiravir is an orally active antiviral drug that introduces copying errors during viral RNA replication including SARS-CoV-2. It is a prodrug of the synthetic nucleoside derivative N4-hydroxycytidine and stops viral replication.

Molnupiravir is a prodrug that is converted to N-hydroxycytidine. It introduces copying errors during viral RNA replication causing lethal mutations and stopping viral replication.

Mechanism of action

Stops viral replication by introducing errors in viral RNA replication.

Dosage

Adult Dose (Oral):

  • Recommended Dose: 200 mg capsules (4 capsules) every 12 hours (total 800 mg/dose)
  • Treatment Duration: 5 days
  • Total Dose: 40 capsules (5 days × 8 capsules/day)

Child Dose: <18 years: Safety and efficacy not established.

Administration
  • May be taken with or without food
  • Swallow capsules whole
  • Take at the same time each day
  • Complete full 5-day course
Missed dose

If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember; skip if its almost time for next dose; do not double the dose.
