Description
Mometasone Furoate 0.1% Topical is a topical corticosteroid that reduces skin inflammation, redness, swelling, and itching. It depresses the formation, release and activity of endogenous inflammatory chemical mediators (e.g. kinins, histamine, liposomal enzymes and prostaglandin). It inhibits the margination and subsequent cell migration to the injury site, reverses vascular dilatation and permeability, resulting in decreased access of cells to the area of injury.

- Various skin conditions with inflammation and itching (eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, rash)

Pharmacology
Mometasone Furoate depresses the formation, release and activity of endogenous inflammatory chemical mediators. It inhibits cell margination and migration and reverses vascular dilatation and permeability, thereby reducing inflammation, redness, and itching.
Mechanism of action
Reduces skin inflammation, redness, and itching by suppressing inflammatory chemical mediators.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Topical):
- 0.1% cream/ointment: Apply a thin film to affected area once daily
Pediatric Dose (Topical):
- Children >2 years: 0.1% cream/ointment: Apply a thin film to affected area once daily for not more than 3 weeks
Administration
- For external use only
- Use at the dose and duration as advised by your doctor
- Clean and dry the affected area before application
- Wash hands after applying (unless hands are the affected area)
- Spread as a thin layer
- Do not cover with bandage or plaster unless advised by doctor
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; skip if it's almost time for next dose; do not double the dose.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Skin atrophy (thinning/dryness)
- Skin color changes
- Burning and stinging sensation
- Paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation)
- Itching
Precautions & warnings
- Do not use for longer than recommended or apply large amounts
- Do not use on face for prolonged periods
- Tell your doctor if condition does not improve after 2 weeks
- Do not use on infected skin
- Do not cover treated area with airtight dressings
- Stop use and consult doctor if skin infection develops
- Caution in diabetes, immune system problems, thin skin, broken or ulcerated skin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Mometasone or any components of the preparation
Drug interactions
- Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole) may increase systemic exposure of mometasone

Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: Mometasone topical may be unsafe during pregnancy (Category C); animal studies show evidence of fetal harm. Use only if clearly needed.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Use in Lactation: Mometasone topical is probably safe during breastfeeding; limited human data suggests no significant risk to the baby.
Pediatric use
Safety not established in children under 2 years; dose established for children >2 years (max 3 weeks).
Geriatric use
No special dose adjustment may be needed in elderly.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Renal Impairment: Caution in kidney disease; dose adjustment may be needed.
Hepatic Impairment: Caution in liver disease; dose adjustment may be needed.
Overdose effects
Overdose may cause HPA axis suppression, hypercorticism, adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's syndrome; reduce or discontinue dose; symptomatic treatment.
