Description
Mucopolysaccharide Polysulphate (MPS) & Salicylic Acid combination is a topical preparation. MPS is a non-steroidal drug with anti-inflammatory activity through weak inhibition of PGE2 synthesis and indirect effect on LTB4 production. It also shows anticoagulant activity as a heparinoid, thrombolytic activity through potentiation of urokinase, and anti-exudatory activity through inhibition of hyaluronidase. Salicylic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with keratolytic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Pharmacology
Mucopolysaccharide Polysulphate (MPS) shows anti-inflammatory activity through weak inhibition of PGE2 synthesis and indirect effect on LTB4 production. It also has anticoagulant, thrombolytic and anti-exudatory activities. Salicylic acid provides keratolytic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Mechanism of action
Reduces inflammation and pain, and softens skin to aid drug absorption.
Dosage
Adults, Elderly and Children >12 years:
- 2-6 inches (5-15 cm) gel massaged into affected area
- Apply up to 4 times daily
Administration
- For external use only
- Massage into affected area
- Avoid contact with eyes
- Wash hands after use
- Do not use on broken, infected or sensitive skin
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; skip if it's almost time for next dose; do not double the dose.

Precautions & warnings
- Do not use on large areas of skin
- Do not use on broken, infected or sensitive skin
- Do not use on eczema or mucous membranes
- Discontinue if excessive irritation occurs
- Do not use during first and last 3 months of pregnancy
- Do not use on breast area during lactation
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity
- Hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs (especially with history of asthma)
- Large areas of skin, broken, infected or sensitive skin
- Eczema or mucous membranes
- Children under 12 years
- First trimester and late pregnancy
Drug interactions
- Salicylic acid may increase skin permeability for other topical medicines
- Caution with coumarin anticoagulants

Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: Do not use during the first three or last three months of pregnancy.
Pregnancy Category: D — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Use in Lactation: Do not use on breast area during breastfeeding.
Pediatric use
Do not use in children under 12 years.
Geriatric use
No dose adjustment needed in elderly.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Renal Impairment: Caution in kidney disease; dose adjustment may be needed.
Hepatic Impairment: Caution in liver disease; dose adjustment may be needed.
Overdose effects
Overdose unlikely (topical use); excessive use may cause skin irritation.

Store below 30°C; protect from light and moisture; keep out of reach of children.
