Multivitamin & Multimineral is a nutritional supplement used to treat and prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies associated with restricted diets, malnutrition, alcoholism, pregnancy, lactation, infections and convalescence.

Description

This is a balanced combination of multivitamin and multimineral in appropriate amounts to replenish deficiencies and maintain proper growth and resistance against diseases. Each sugar coated tablet contains Vitamin A, D, B1, B2, B6, B12, Nicotinamide, Calcium pantothenate, Folic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and minerals like Ferrous Sulphate, Cupric Sulphate, Magnesium Sulphate, Zinc Sulphate, Potassium Iodide & Potassium Sulphate.

Pharmacology

Vitamins and minerals are essential for normal metabolic functions including hematopoiesis. B-group vitamins are components of enzyme systems regulating carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. Vitamin C is involved in tissue repair and collagen formation. Vitamin A is essential for retinal function and epithelial tissue growth and differentiation.

Mechanism of action

Supplies essential vitamins and minerals to meet nutritional requirements.

Dosage

Adults and Children >5 years:

  • 1 tablet daily or as directed by physician
Administration
  • Swallow tablet whole
  • Take at the same time each day
  • Best taken with food
Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember; skip if it's almost time for next dose; do not double the dose.

Side effects

Side Effects:

  • Gastrointestinal intolerance with iron (in some patients)
  • Side effects reported with specific vitamins & minerals at substantially higher levels than in this tablet
Precautions & warnings
  • Not intended for treatment of pernicious anemia or other megaloblastic anemia (where B12 is deficient)
  • Do not exceed recommended daily dose during first trimester of pregnancy (Vitamin A teratogenicity)
Contraindications
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Not intended for treatment of severe specific deficiencies
  • Not recommended for patients on levodopa therapy (pyridoxine decreases efficacy)
Drug interactions
  • Pyridoxine may reduce the efficacy of levodopa
Food interactions

Take with food for better absorption.

Use in pregnancy

Use in Pregnancy: Do not exceed daily dose during first trimester. Larger doses of Vitamin A (more than 10 tablets daily) may be teratogenic.

Pregnancy Category: A — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.

Use in lactation

Use in Lactation: Safe and beneficial for nursing mothers.

Pediatric use

Dose established for children >5 years.

Geriatric use

Safe and beneficial for elderly.

Renal / hepatic impairment

Renal Impairment: Caution in kidney disease; dose adjustment may be needed.

Hepatic Impairment: Caution in liver disease; dose adjustment may be needed.

Overdose effects

Overdose may cause vitamin and mineral toxicity; symptomatic treatment.

Store below 30°C; protect from light and moisture; keep out of reach of children.
