Description
Nandrolone is a medicine used in the treatment of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. It helps strengthen the bones which become thin and brittle due to osteoporosis. Nandrolone is generally given by a healthcare professional. You should not self-administer this medicine at home. Your doctor will decide the dose and how often you should take them. You should take it regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not stop using the medicine even if you feel better unless the doctor tells you so. Using this medicine may cause few common side effects such as swelling of legs, ankle swelling, swelling of feet, fluid retention, and breast enlargement. Let your doctor know if any of these side effects bother you. Before using this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You should also tell your doctor all the other medicines you are taking. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult with their doctors before using the medicine. Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid which mimics the effect of male hormone (testosterone). It works by strengthening the bones which become thin and fragile due to osteoporosis.

Mechanism of action
Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid. It promotes tissue-building processes and protein anabolism. It also stimulates erythropoeitin production, causing an increase in haemoglobin and RBC volume.
Dosage
Adult Dose: Intramuscular As anabolic after debilitating illness; Postmenopausal osteoporosis; Metastatic breast cancer Adult: As decanoate: 25-100 mg once every 3-4 wk. Anaemia of chronic renal failure Adult: As decanoate: 50-200 mg wkly. Anaemia in chemotherapy patients Adult: 50-150 mg wkly.

Precautions & warnings
[SAFE] Nandrolone does not usually affect your ability to drive. You have been prescribed Nandrolone for the treatment of osteoporosis in women after menopause. It is given as an injection into muscle of upper arm or leg by your doctor. Inform your doctor if you develop male characteristics such as hoarseness, increased hair growth, acne and increased sex drive. Do not take Nandrolone if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
Contraindications
Prostatic or breast carcinoma (male); nephrosis, porphyria; infants, pregnancy and lactation.
Drug interactions
May increase effects of oral anticoagulants, insulin, oral antidiabetic agents, adrenal steroid, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).
Food interactions
