Oxiconazole 1% Topical is an antifungal cream used for tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea pedis and pityriasis versicolor. It interferes with ergosterol synthesis to destroy fungal cell membranes.
Description
Oxiconazole is a synthetic azole antifungal that is usually fungistatic but may be fungicidal in high concentrations. It exerts antifungal activity by interfering with ergosterol synthesis and altering cellular membranes. It also has some antibacterial activity against aerobic gram-positive organisms.

Pharmacology
Oxiconazole inhibits CYP51 (14α demethylase) to prevent ergosterol synthesis required for fungal cell membrane integrity, stopping fungal growth.
Mechanism of action
Treats skin fungal infections by destroying fungal cell membranes.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Topical):
- Tinea cruris/corporis: 1% cream once or twice daily for 2 weeks
- Tinea pedis: 1% cream once or twice daily for 1 month
- Pityriasis versicolor: 1% cream once daily for 2 weeks
Administration
- For external use only
- Clean and dry affected area before application
- Apply to affected area and 1 inch of surrounding skin
- Wash hands after use
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; skip if it's almost time for next dose; do not double the dose.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Application site burning
- Application site irritation
- Application site itching
- Application site redness
- Dryness
- Peeling or blistering of skin
- Rare: Hair thinning
Precautions & warnings
- Avoid contact with eyes, nose and mouth
- Consult doctor if no improvement in 4 weeks
- Maintain personal hygiene
- Wash socks thoroughly and change shoes daily
