Description
Proparacaine Hydrochloride reversibly blocks nerve conduction near the site of application. It may limit sodium ion permeability through the lipid layer of the nerve cell membrane, blocking pain signals from peripheral nerves to the brain.

Pharmacology
Proparacaine Hydrochloride reversibly blocks nerve conduction by limiting sodium ion permeability through the nerve cell membrane. It blocks pain signals from peripheral nerves to the brain, reducing pain sensation.
Mechanism of action
Provides eye anesthesia by blocking nerve conduction.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Deep anesthesia (cataract extraction): Instill 1 drop every 5-10 minutes for 5-7 doses
- Suture/foreign body removal: Instill 1-2 drops 2-3 minutes before procedure
- Tonometry: Instill 1-2 drops immediately before measurement
Administration
- For external use only
- Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye (to prevent contamination)
- Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it
- Place medicine inside the lower eyelid
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; skip if it's almost time for next application; do not double the dose.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Stinging in the eyes
- Burning sensation in the eye
- Eye redness (temporary)

- May affect driving ability; do not drive if symptoms occur
- Effect lasts for up to 30 minutes
- Do not use on open wounds or dry, chapped, or irritated skin
