Description

Salicylic Acid 6% & 12% Topical preparations act as a keratolytic agent. The 6% concentration is used for psoriasis and dermatitis, while the 12% concentration is used for warts and corns.

Pharmacology

Salicylic acid softens and destroys the stratum corneum by increasing endogenous hydration, causing the horny layer of the skin to swell, soften, and then desquamate. At high concentrations, it has a caustic effect and also possesses weak antifungal and antibacterial activity.

Mechanism of action

Softens and destroys the stratum corneum by increasing endogenous hydration to remove dead skin.

Dosage

Adult Dose (Topical):

  • Apply to affected area once daily
  • Hydrate area for 5 minutes prior to application if possible
  • Occlude the area at night; wash off in the morning
Administration
  • For external use only
  • Avoid contact with eyes and other mucous membranes
  • Use as directed by a physician
Missed dose

If you miss an application, apply at the next scheduled time.
