At a glance
Sulconazole Nitrate is an imidazole antifungal cream used for the treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris, tinea corporis, and pityriasis versicolor.
Description
Sulconazole Nitrate is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-mediated 14α-lanosterol demethylase, preventing ergosterol synthesis. Ergosterol is essential for fungal cell membrane integrity; its deficiency leads to cell death. It is effective against dermatophytes and Malassezia furfur.
Indications
- Tinea pedis (athlete's foot)
- Tinea cruris
- Tinea corporis
- Pityriasis versicolor
Therapeutic class
Topical Antifungal Preparations
Pharmacological class
Imidazole Antifungal
Pharmacology
Sulconazole Nitrate inhibits fungal cytochrome P450 enzymes, preventing 14α-lanosterol demethylation, which blocks ergosterol synthesis. Ergosterol is essential for fungal cell membrane integrity. Its deficiency increases membrane permeability and causes fungal cell death.
Mechanism of action
Destroys fungal cell membranes by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis.
