Description
Timolol Maleate is a beta-adrenoceptor blocking agent available as a gel-forming eye drop for once-daily use. It reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing aqueous humor production and does not change visual acuity.

Pharmacology
Timolol Maleate blocks beta-adrenoceptors, reducing aqueous humor production and lowering intraocular pressure. It may also lower blood pressure via systemic absorption.
Mechanism of action
Lowers intraocular pressure by decreasing aqueous humor production.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Gel-forming eye drop: 1 drop in affected eye(s) once daily
Administration
- For ophthalmic use only
- Wash hands before use
- Do not touch dropper tip to eye or any surface
- Apply pressure to the inner corner of the eye for 1 minute after instillation
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; if almost time for the next dose, skip it; do not double the dose.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Eye burning, stinging
- Eye irritation, conjunctivitis
- Visual disturbances
Systemic (Rare):
- Bradycardia, hypotension
- Bronchospasm, dyspnea
Precautions & warnings
- Do not use in asthma, severe COPD, or serious heart conditions
- Do not stop abruptly
- Visual disturbances may affect driving
- Use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Bronchial asthma or history of bronchial asthma
- Severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Sinus bradycardia, 2nd/3rd degree AV block
- Overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock
Drug interactions
- Reserpine: Increased hypotension and bradycardia
- Other antihypertensives: Additive effects
- NSAIDs: Antagonize hypotensive effect
Food interactions
Alcohol consumption is not relevant (topical application).
Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: May be unsafe; animal studies show harmful effects; use only if clearly needed; consult your doctor.
