Description
Triamcinolone Acetonide (a derivative of Triamcinolone) in a compatible base. Topical steroids are primarily effective because of their anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive actions.

Pharmacology
Triamcinolone has mainly glucocorticoid activity. Topical steroids are primarily effective because of their anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive actions.
Mechanism of action
Blocks production of chemical messengers that cause inflammation and allergies, and suppresses the immune system.
Dosage
Adult and Child Dose (Topical):
- Apply cream/ointment sparingly onto affected area 2-3 times daily
Administration
- For external use only
- Clean and dry affected area
- Wash hands after application
- Avoid eyes, mouth, nose
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; if almost time for next dose, skip it; do not double the dose.

- Joint pain
- Burning
- Itching
- Dryness
- Folliculitis
- Hypertrichosis
- Acneiform eruptions
- Hypopigmentation
- Skin atrophy
- Striae
- Miliaria
Precautions & warnings
- Does not usually affect ability to drive
- Mood changes or stomach problems may occur; inform your doctor
- Do not stop suddenly; may worsen symptoms
- Use with caution on infected areas
- Long-term use (more than 4 weeks) may cause atrophic striae
Contraindications
- Tuberculosis of the skin, fungus infections, viral diseases of the skin (Herpes simplex, chickenpox, vaccinia), perioral dermatitis, rosacea, ulcerative conditions
- Hypersensitivity to any component
Drug interactions
- Lowering of plasma salicylates levels
- NSAIDs: increased risk of GI bleeding and ulceration
- Antidiabetics: antagonised blood glucose-lowering effects
- Amphotericin B, beta agonists, beta-blockers, potassium-depleting diuretics, theophylline: increased risk of hyperkalaemia
- Ciclosporin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, barbiturate, rifampicin: increased clearance of triamcinolone
- Live vaccines: infections may develop
Food interactions
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1% Topical; consult your doctor.
Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: May be unsafe; animal studies show harmful effects; consult your doctor.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Use in lactation
Use in Lactation: Caution needed; breastfeeding should be held until treatment is completed and drug is eliminated.
Pediatric use
Not recommended for children under 8 years; limit to least amount compatible with effective regimen; do not treat longer than 5 days

Overdose effects
Symptoms: Adrenal suppression, ecchymoses, peptic ulceration, hypertension, aggravation of infection.
