Mebeverine Hydrochloride is a prescription medicine used to treat and relieve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as stomach pain, cramps, gas, bloating, and changes in bowel habits. It relaxes intestinal muscles and relieves spasms.
Indications
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) - symptomatic treatment
- Chronic irritable colon
- Spastic constipation
- Mucous colitis
- Colicky abdominal pain
- Persistent non-specific diarrhoea
Dosage
Adults, Elderly and Children over 10 years:
- Tablet (135 mg): 1 tablet 3 times daily
- Modified-release Capsule (200 mg): 1 capsule 2 times daily
- Most effective when taken 20 minutes before meals
- Dose may be gradually reduced after several weeks
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Skin rash
- Urticaria
- Angioedema (rare)
Precautions & warnings
- Stop taking and consult a doctor if you experience difficulty in breathing or swelling of face, neck, tongue or throat
- Consult doctor if symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks or worsen
- Caution in porphyria or allergic reactions
- Consult doctor during pregnancy and lactation
