At a glance

Insulin Aspart is a rapid-acting human insulin analog used to improve glycemic control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.

Indications
  • Improvement of glycemic control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus
Pharmacology

The primary activity of Insulin Aspart is the regulation of glucose metabolism. It binds to insulin receptors on muscle and fat cells, facilitating cellular glucose uptake and simultaneously inhibiting glucose output from the liver. It is homologous with regular human insulin except for a single substitution of proline by aspartic acid at position B28, which ensures rapid absorption and faster onset of action.

  • Type 2 Diabetes: Initial: 0.2-0.4 units/kg/day q8hr-q12hr; with intermediate (NPH) or long-acting insulin at bedtime
